What is Capsular Contracture?
Capsular Contracture occurs when fibrous scar tissue forms around a breast implant, creating a capsule. The body forms protective capsules around any object it recognizes as foreign, so this is considered a natural process.
But sometimes a tissue capsule forms that is unusually hard and dense. The capsule tightens around and squeezes the implant, and can cause chronic pain. The shape of the breast can also be distorted and often the breast rises higher on the chest, as seen in the example below.
What is Collagen
Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body. It forms a scaffold to provide strength and structure, especially for our hair, skin, nails, bones, ligaments, cartilage and tendons. Some types of collagen fibrils, gram-for-gram, are stronger than steel.
One of the benefits of collagen is its ability to promote glowing vibrant skin by providing elasticity. Collagen production declines with age (and exposure to factors such as smoking and UV light) and skin becomes loose, fine lines appear and dryness can occur.
What is Endometriosis?
This condition occurs when the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium, grows in other places, such as the fallopian tubes, ovaries, pelvis and even the colon. When that lining breaks down, like the regular lining in the uterus that produces monthly menstruation, it has nowhere to go, and thus can be a very painful condition. The reason why this happens is unknown. Surgery is generally recommended, with no guarantee that the lesions will not return. Medication can also be prescribed, including pain relief drugs and hormones. What is a hot flush/hot flash?
This is a sudden feeling of feverish heat, and one of the most common menopausal complaints. It can occur at any time of the day or night, and can be triggered by consuming alcohol, caffeine or spicy foods. For something that’s so common, experts say it’s surprising how little is understood about hot flushes.
What’s known is that they can vary in severity, frequency and duration. Some women may get just a few hot flushes; others suffer from multiple hot flushes every day for years. These (normallys) inconvenient hot moments have to do with the regulation of the Sympathetic (SNS) and Parasympathetic Nervous Systems (PNS).
What is Mastitis?
Mastitis is an inflammation of breast tissue that sometimes involves an infection. The inflammation results in breast pain and tenderness, swelling, warmth and redness. Mastitis most commonly affects women who are breast-feeding (lactation mastitis), but can also occur in women who aren’t breast-feeding and in men.
What is PID?
This is a chronic infection of the fallopian tubes and uterus. It is usually as a result of an untreated transmitted infection or an untreated bacterial infection. Because inflammation is present in the fallopian tubes and uterus, pain is experienced and sometimes is accompanied by a fever. Low Level Laser Therapy (PBM Therapy) is an anti-inflammatory treatment, and will lessen and eventually eliminate the pain and infection.
Pelvic Inflammatory disease may cause scar tissue and collections of infected fluid (abscesses) to develop in the fallopian tubes and damage reproductive organs, if left untreated. Under the heading of PID we could also include issues such as Vulvodynia and Tight Pelvic Floor. These painful conditions are easily resolved by visiting our clinic and undergoing Low Level Laser Therapy or Photobiomodulation Therapy.
This condition can be so painful that sometimes just even sitting for a long time can feel unbearable. Pain can be constant or occasional and can last for months or even years.
Treatment often includes avoiding tight fitting clothes, perfumes or dyes, and also avoiding certain activities such as cycling. Other treatments include oral or topical medication.
